The Process1. Where do the animals in our care come from? Most of the animals at SRAS come from owner surrenders. However, we do transfer in several animals from other animal welfare organizations, such as Idaho Falls Animal Shelter, Rexburg Animal Shelter, Pocatello Animal Shelter, PAWS, and Fort Hall Roar. We also take in strays from Jefferson County, Ucon, and Ririe, but all the stray animals from Idaho Falls go to the Idaho Falls Animal Shelter. 2. How do we get strays from Jefferson County, Ucon, and Ririe? Jefferson County: We only take stray dogs from Jefferson County. Anyone who finds a stray dog here must contact the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and get an incident number. We can't take the dog unless the person has an incident number, and the sheriff's office says the person can bring the dog to us. Ucon: We take stray dogs and cats from Ucon. Anyone who finds a stray dog or cat in Ucon must contact Ucon City Offices, and they will advise how to get the animal to us. Ririe: We only take stray dogs from Ririe. Anyone who finds a stray dog in Ririe must contact Ririe City Offices, and they will advise how to get the dog to us. 3. What happens when a stray comes in from Jefferson County, Ucon, or Ririe? Once at SRAS, employees will scan the animal for a microchip. If one is found, the owners will be contacted! If no microchip is found, we will take in the animal, give them a kennel, and provide them with food, water, and lots of love. We will post to our social media to hopefully find the original owners, but if no one claims the animal after 3 business days (the owner must be able to prove the animal is actually theirs), we will put the animal up for adoption to find a fur-ever home! 4. What if someone brings in a stray from Idaho Falls? If a stray animal from Idaho Falls is brought in to us by concerned citizens, we will scan the animal for a microchip. If one is found, we will contact the owners. However, if no microchip is found, we will ask that the animal be taken to Idaho Falls Animal Shelter. 5. How do we help people if they've found a stray or are missing an animal? No matter where you're located, if you find an animal or are missing one, we will do our best to help you out! We are always willing to scan for microchips, and we are more than happy to share photos of lost or found animals on our Facebook page. While we most likely won't have a missing animal from the Idaho Falls area, we are happy to check. If we don't have the animal, we will direct you to Idaho Falls Animal Shelter. Tobi, Arlo, and AddieNow that you know the process, let me tell you about some recent strays that all came from Jefferson County. Tobi: Old Man Tobi will always hold a special place in my heart because he helped one of my dreams come true. :) I don't know why, but I've always wanted to name a shelter animal, and Tobi made that happen! :) He was an older dog, so he was being called "Old Man," but I added Tobi to that, so a lot of us called him Tobi, too. One time, I took my laptop in the meet and greet room with Tobi. My plan was to work on some other things and be with him at the same time. Yeah... that didn't go too well. This excited and happy boy got so much slobber and dog hair on my laptop screen and the keyboard, but it was totally worth it. :) Tobi was adopted not too long after he came to us. He was a really affectionate boy, and he made an elderly gentleman very happy. :) (Please ignore my dog-talk voice in the video. :D) Arlo: Arlo was a big ol' boy that also came to us from Jefferson County. This poor pup seemed to be in good health, but due to probably his age and weight, he struggled to walk a bit and didn't have tons of energy. He was such a sweetheart, though! One day, I sat in the meet and greet room with him for awhile, trying to get some of the stickers out of his fur. I ended up just giving him a bath, and that was a highlight of my day! 3 out of 5 work days each week, I'm working remotely from a laptop, so I LOVE when I get to interact with the animals! Arlo has a happy ending, too! He was just adopted with another senior pup, Mickey! They both look so happy in their adoption photo! (You can see the photo on Facebook.) Addie: I'm not going to tell you too much about Addie right now, because I'll tell her whole story next week. :) But just know that this sweet girl is being well cared for, and she'll be available soon! Here's a photo of her because she is so stinkin' cute!!!
